When She Danced Reviews

Chicago Sun-Times:
"Sherman's tragicomedy of artistic manners is an engaging look at human communication and all its attendant malfunctions. And on this level, TimeLine Theatre's ambitious revival of the 1985 play -- under the spirited direction of Nick Bowling (the 2009 Jeff Award winner for his staging of "The History Boys") -- is especially delicious."

Examiner.com:
"TimeLine Theatre Company's bitingly elegant production creates an aura of faded yet timeless beauty ... Each character is linked by their inexplicable bond to a woman engaged in the most ephemeral of art forms, dance."

When She Danced In The Media

Chicago Sun-Times:
"About casting [Jennifer] Engstrom in the iconic role, Bowling noted: "There is a grand quality about Isadora in the play. I saw many actresses at auditions who could do that, but what I liked about Jennifer is that she also was able to bring the character down to a human level. She understood the goddess, but suggested that this also was a real woman."

About When She Danced

When She Danced

Visit Paris in 1923 to eavesdrop on the bohemian life of international star Isadora Duncan — renowned as the “mother of modern dance” — in this evocative and incredibly funny portrait. A multi-lingual script of great heart mixes the high comedy of a colorful cast of characters with a poignant view of how art can move and inspire us.

“The very inexplicability of Isadora’s art becomes a stirring emblem of its mysterious power to endure.”— The New York Times
