Company History
Incorporated in 1997, TimeLine has
quickly become one of Chicago’s most daring and
exciting off-Loop companies.
TimeLine's founding company members
wanted to shed new perspectives on the moments, places
and forces that define history. They shared a similar
background, having been trained at The Theatre School
at DePaul University. After earning degrees in acting,
directing, design and playwriting, the original members
formed TimeLine with the goal of incorporating all of
these disciplines into one cohesive production company.
After incorporating, the company
spent one full year developing its mission and establishing
an artistic and administrative structure before producing
its first show, Summit
Conference, in April of 1998.
In September 1999, TimeLine became
the proud tenant of a performance, rehearsal and office
space at Baird Hall Theatre, one of the city's oldest
off-Loop theaters. Upon moving in, the company expanded
its performance schedule to a three-play subscription
season.
In June 2001, TimeLine was awarded
seven Joseph Jefferson
Citations, breaking the previously held record.
Citations were awarded for Not
About Nightingales and Streeterville.
In May 2002, TimeLine added its first
salaried staff position with PJ
Powers as Artistic Director.
In June 2002, TimeLine was recognized
again by the Joseph Jefferson Committee with five Citations
for The Crucible.
Today, TimeLine has a bold, ambitious
plan for the future. The company is dedicated to become
a preeminent arts organization that will have resonance
and longevity in the community. To fulfill this vision,
TimeLine has recently crafted a detailed, three-year
strategic plan to guide the company through the next
phase of this organization’s existence. It links
our ongoing commitment to artistic excellence with an
organizational vision of disciplined growth and responsible
management.
TimeLine’s
artistic team serves
as the primary visionaries and directors of the artistic
and business operations of the company. Through the
company’s leadership and the support of our patrons,
TimeLine is poised to continue to build its reputation
and make its mark on the continuing legacy of Chicago’s
theatre history.
